On our recent trip to England, we had set aside two days to visit London. We knew that we would barely scratch the surface of all the amazing things to see and do there in a mere 48 hours. Rick and I each picked one “must do” and made those a top priority. As much as I love visiting museums, palaces, and historical places, I ruled those out as they require a lot of time. Instead, I picked seeing a show. London is famous for its performing arts, and we had over two dozen shows to choose from. Rick wanted to experience London like a local, trying different foods, visiting markets, and finding hidden gems. Booking tickets for a show is easy to do online but discovering the gems of London can be daunting without a guide. Luckily, we visited with our friends who know London like the back of their hands.

Over the course of our first afternoon and evening in London, we walked over 18,000 steps taking in many landmarks along the way. Highlights included the London Eye, Big Ben, 10 Downing Street, Trafalgar Square, Shakespeare’s Globe Theatre, and Borough Market. My favorite experience was a surprise planned by our friends; drinks and sushi at the highest hotel bar in Europe on the 52nd floor of The Shard. The views of the city skyline from GŎNG Bar are stunning any time of the day but especially between sunset and twilight. Our second day involved a bit less walking and several taxi rides. We started in Leicester Square then strolled through Chinatown, Covent Garden, and Jubilee Market Hall before going back to our hotel for dinner. Topping off another great day in London, we saw the musical Jersey Boys at the Trafalgar Theatre followed by drinks at the rooftop bar of our hotel.
